Term 2 week 4-5

15/11/11
Today we learned chord progressions again. This time it was rather easy, and I understand the concept, but I can't easily improvise notes based on the chords being played. Following that, I just listened to Dhanes and my other classmates playing improvised songs. I also tried to learn the song of Pirates of The Carribean, which was written on the board.

16/11/11
Today we studied the minor relative scales for major scales. It was an easy lesson, and I used my guitar knowledge for most of the questions that Sir Herry asked. Following that I practiced my note reading from the guitar room white board, by trying to play a song written on it. The playing was still somewhat choppy and I need more practice.

22/11/11
Today we learnt about more minor scales, including the melodic and harmonic scales. I didnt really understand the topic yet at the time. We also had a short 5-minute quiz, which I did well. Because we had to rehearse the next day, I practiced my composition in instrument class. Mr John helped me out in playing the composition, and also to help understanding the minor scales.

23/11/11
Today I practiced my composition in front of the class. My playing wasn't too good, but I was able to read the notes. We also had another revision on the three minor scales. We also watched most of our friends perform. Following the rehearsal, I decided to hone my reading skills. This way I can just read my composition instead of just memorizing it, as it's less risky.

Term 1 Week 12 - Term 2 Week 1-2

18/10/11
Today we didn't have much to do. First I had to submit my MDW. I had not sticked my screenchots, but I guess it's fine. We then got a sheet of paper with music genre info inside. Using the sheet, Sir Herry asked us questions on the genres. Unfortunately, we then received a new task, which involved surveying people on their musical genre taste.

25/10/11
Today we first got back all of our compositions, including samples of compositions created byour classmates. We also had to make our 8-bar versions for our AA'BA', which was somewhat easy. In instrument class, I mostly watches Mr. John teach Dhanes songwriting tips and tricks. I also learned how to create accompanyingchords along with the melody.

26/10/11
Today we got this reflection booklet for the first time. Following that, we practiced "Indonesia Pusaka", and I'm probably bonna sing that with Jordi. Finally, we got our new compositions checked again. In instrument class, we watched a video of a youtube artist's rendition of Indonesia Pusaka, which was rather inspirational (despite the fact that it bears little resemblance to the real song).

1/11/11
Today, first off we wrote our final drafts of our compositions on the paper that Mr. Herry gave us. We also had to rehearse Indonesia Pusaka again, as we had the assessment tomorrow. In instrument class, we then learned several chords for Indonesia Pusaka, in case any of us wanted to use the guitar. It was played on the D key, and I also got to practice my composition there.

2/1/11
Today, we had our assessment of singing Indonesia Pusaka. Some of the singing was really good, like Shafiera and Astri's performance. My performance on the other hand, was ok in my opinion. I was rather nervous as usual, but I think I was able to pull through in the end. I really have to find a way to face stage fright though.

Singing + 7th Chord Practice

Here I am practicing the 7th chords that were taught in the first few lessons of Music Class this term. For the practice, I used the song I Will Fly by Ten2Five because it contains many 7th chords, including CM7, Em7, Dm7 and GM7 (I think)

Here I practiced the song I used for my singing assessment, which was Good Life by OneRepublic. This version was shortened to only include the first verse and the chorus. I think I did ok, although I did lose breath a couple of times.

This is the improved version of Start. I played better on this version then the previous one, especially the part before the refrain. I still have to remember the song more and improve my fingering skills in the long run.

Other Practices

Here I am attempting to play the intro of the Tenacious D song called "The Metal". Its a challenging song to play and I can't really get all the notes right in one go. However, it is a good song for practicing hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Here I am practicing the Depapepe song called Start. Its usually played with two guitars, but I just played it with on

Here is a really simple intro of the song called Saltwater Room. At this point I have no idea waht else I can practice as instrument class is usually about the classical songs. As I already played all the classical songs I can play, I am just playing pop songs now.

e. Here was me when I still couldnt really play the song that well, so a lot of parts sound off or wrong.

Classical Practice

This video shows me practicing the andantino classical song. Its a very simple song so I was able to play it with only little difficulties. I think that I might be able to play it more fluently if I practice though.

This was my practice of the first part of Romance dell Amor. I think I improved a lot since gradde 9, and I can play most parts rather quickly now. I still have some problems when I am nervous, such as for the latter parts though.

Now this is the second part of Romance Dell Amor. Unlike the 1st part, I can barely play this portion, and I really have to practice more. I stopped a lot in playing this, at it took a while for me to remember the placing of the fingers.

Here I am practicing a part of the song Canon. I am only playing the melody here without the bass line, as I don't really know it. Here I play with all 4 fingers, and I am playing rather fluently.

Week 11

11/10/11
Today I didn't do much as I only got my composition checked by Sir Herry, and judging by his singing it was a pretty good melody. He proposed some minor adjustments to make the song sound better. We also looked at several people's blogs. Most were more complete than mine, and included videos whereas mine did not. This means that I have to start uploading videos.

12/10/11
Today we watched people rehearse their compositions. Before that, we watched a really cool improvisation song by Adam Reikhan and Dhanes. Most of the compositions were good, and Jesslyn's one felt like a real song. I have to start practicing my composition and finalizing it.

Week 9-10

27/9/11
Today everyone had to rehearse. When I rehearsed, I sort of sucked as usual. I really have to improve before tomorrow, as it will be very difficult other wise. Watching everyone's rehearsal was interesting though, as I got to see everyone's progress and their weak points as well.

28/9/11
Today I finally did my classical assessment. Luckily I was able to remember all the parts of my song, including the 2nd part which I have just learned this morning from Ditho. Despite this, I played rather slowly, and it was very choppy. I have to improve my picking for further performances. However, I am honestly rather satisfied with my admittedly lackluster performance.

4/10/11
Today we did not do much except for make a song melody. It was sort of familiar as I had to do it in previous grades, namely grade 7 and grade 9. We also watched the saxophone players play their songs, and their songs were nice. Most of the songs played was Amazing Grace though. It was also really cool to see Callista, Michelle, Ivi and Nico's compositions come together.

5/10/11
Today I only wrote my 16-bar music composition. Honestly I finished my work yesterday so I didn't need to do much today. I only had to change the last bar to make it sound on a better note (literally). We also had some entertainment (not in the wrong way) in the form of Jesslyn and Cindy getting called to the front and singing Happy Birthday. I'll refine my compostition with the AA'BA' format later.

Week 8

20/9/11
Today we watched people do some revision on the 7th chords. I sort of realized that I might have made a crucial mistake on my test. That aside , I then watched Cindy sing her song. It was rather nice and then we watched rehearsal. I now have to try to master my song or I'll probably get a bad score.

21/9/11
Today I had to rehearse my guitar classical piece. It was called Romance Del Amor. I didnt do too good while playing because my picking wasnt loud enough and I was very nervous. My test scores were also rather disappointing. I still have to redo my music as I really have to improve myself this term.

Weeks 6-7

7/9/2011
Today we just learned more about the 7th chords. This time it was raher informative and I understood it all more this time. All this thinfo will probably help in my song-making endeavours, so it will be good for me to learn this chords. It will also expand my musical knowledge, so long as I can apply them in practical usage.

13/9/2011
Today once again, we reviewed on 7th chords. We seem to be reviewing on them a lot, but I think its needed as many of us still haven't really grasped the concept. We got a revision sheet and it was pretty simple for me. Several people also performed their classical pieces in front. Each of the performances were good, and I guess I need to pick a song fast.

14/9/2011
Today we did our 7th chord notation test. It was pretty easy as I got a good grip on the topic already. I was very careless though, forcing me to cross out many notes. I have to be more careful in notation tests in the future. I also have to be able to use these chords to create songs or all the theory lessons would be useless.

Weeks 4-5

16/8/2011
Today we had to do our music presentation on the different genres of the world. So, first off I watched Sarah's group and Adam Reikhan's group. They had good presentations, but Adam's team seemed to lack in the info department. I was very nervous for our presentation, as we lacked preparation. Luckily, once again we got skipped. Sadly, we have to sing for the Independence Day Ceremony.

23/8/2011
Today Mr.Herry was absent, so we got a theory lesson from Mr John instead. It was just a rerun on the usual scales exercises, which most of the new students didnt r=really understand yet. Nico did though. It was good to refresh my memory on the subject though. We also learned the proper placement of the clefs and sharps. And it was nice because we also got longer instrument class for once.

24/8/2011/
Today my team finally did our group slide presentation. It was rather rough as most of us were unprepared. Adam Bahfen and Raka didnt really seem to know their topics very well. Perhaps they just copy pasted info? But im not sure. I only had to talk about the introduction and conclusion. As usual I just improvise, and as usual it turns out pretty well. However, this meant that I had the rather easy job in the end. Well, it felt good to finally get it over with.

Gr 10 term 1 weeks 1-3

26/7/11
Today we just had an introduction on the music lesson. We had a short explanation on our assessments such as the singing due next week. It turns out that our first assessment was in fact the singing. This means that I probably have to prepare for next week.

27/7/11
Today we first had to sing the Binusian song, which wasnt very fun. We sing it too much. Following that I got my paper back, where I got a full score. Scales are already easy to me though, which makes it simple. We then get a lesson (again) on scales. Still think I need to pick a song.

2/8/11
Today we first picked what songs we were going to sing. It was easy, as I picked it beforehand. I'm going to sing the song Good Life by OneRepublic. We then heard what were going to be assessed on and learned about 7th chords. It was frustrating but I'll probably study on my own.

3/8/11
Today I was really nervous, as it was supposed to be my turn to sing. Due to some lucky twist of fate, I was skipped a lot. The result was that I didn't need to perform today (thanks to Ichan's rendition of Smooth Criminal). Thanks to that, I have one more day to practice to perfect my song.

9/8/11
I was absent

10/8/11
Today I finally sang Good Life. It went horribly at first, and I asked to restart. My main problem was nervousness and lack of breath. I did far better on my 2nd try. I even improvised a little on the tune of the last verse. I just need to be more confident. I also have to start working on my presentation.
